Reluctant Monarch

Memories of the brilliant bliss
Invade the once sated sleep stories
Trickling into this silent slumber
The desires that should have been damned
Possesed passions awakening the hunter in the hunted
A face on my pillowcase
Sheets slick with sweat and satisfaction
Another broken battlefield

Confessing the confusion
Expecting an embrace that never comes
the calming comfort of a sleepy smile
You, a reluctant monarch
With one more plastic monkey to add to you barrel of primates
Safely secured like a lie untold
Another curiosity fulfilled
I don't mind hanging for my own sins
But I refuse to be crucified for yours

It astounds me
the glass I wouldn't mind crawling through
Or friends I wouldn't mind lying to
If it meant I could spend one more minute with you
